Top Ten Points for Blogging

  1.  Use a layout that is professional. It shouldn't be too complicated, and all uploaded images should be appropriate.
  2. Share anyone's work without his or her permission.
  3. Make sure that the text is easy to read with the background. The colors should not clash and should be easily seen from a distance.
  4. Use a variety of media. Incorporate as much media as possible: YouTube videos, pictures, and music are great! Don't just use text.
  5.  Go more than a couple of weeks without posting. Keep your blog consistently updated in order for parents to stay up to date.
  6.  Provide a place for parents and guardians to provide comments/questions/feedback.
  7. Add personal information about yourself or the school, or only allow particular people to see the blog in order to promote privacy of students and parents.
  8. Ensure that past posts are available for viewing in case of questions.
  9.  Use complex words or phrases - if your students are old enough to use the blog for themselves, they should be able to understand everything that you are posting.
  10. Share your blog with other teachers and administration! Let other's see what it is that you're doing in the classroom, and how you are keeping in touch with parents.

Top 10 Tips for Powerpoint

PowerPoint: Do's and Dont's

  1. Do: Make sure colors work together and are easy to read and see clearly.
  2. Don't: Make the slides too cluttered with words. Remember: 6 x 6: 6 bullets with 6 words each!
  3. Do: Use appropriate transitions to make the PowerPoint more engaging.
  4. Don't: Use too many crazy animations - they can be distracting! Keep it to one per slide.
  5. Do: Switch it up! Include video(s), music, and links in your PowerPoints.
  6. Do: Keep it short. Don't make presentations too long - no one wants to sit through 40 slides!
  7. Do: Include questions in the presentation. Make it as engaging as possible!
  8. Do: Experiment with different kinds of font and font colors. But again, make sure it's easy to see!
  9. Do: Use charts, diagrams, webs, etc. when explaining a process.
  10. Don't: Use material that isn't appropriate for your grade level. Use it as a visual aid above all else.
